Two programs currently underway

1.) Appliance Recycling Rewards

Earn money for responsibly recycling your old appliances.

Through September 30, residential electric customers can schedule a free pickup of a working refrigerator, freezer, dehumidifier, or window air conditioner and receive $75 per unit recycled. There is a limit of four appliances per household, per year.

2.) Home Energy Rebates

Get money back on energy-efficient products and appliances.

Upgrading to energy-saving products has many benefits, including reducing your energy use, increasing home comfort, and cutting down on your electricity costs year after year. Efficiency Smart’s rebates help you save even more.

Customers of Village of Versailles Utilities are eligible for cash back on qualifying energy-efficient products. The rebates are available to individual homeowners or renters. They are good while funds are available, and may be subject to change without prior notice. Developers and landlords interested in receiving project rebates should contact Efficiency Smart.

Permits Reminder

For Sidewalk, Curb, and Driveway

The Village of Versailles requires anyone making repairs to or pouring of new sidewalks, driveway approaches, curb, or gutter in public right-of-way to complete a permit application prior to performing any such work.

The purpose of these permits is to allow for monitoring of the quality of work that is being completed when repairs and improvements are made in addition to keeping a written record of such work. There is no fee for the permit. The Village has specifications regarding concrete thickness, width, and composition of the concrete used for these repairs and/or improvements.

The permit application will need to be completed by the property owner or contractor and submitted to the Village Administrative Office. Work may begin once the application form is returned by the Village Inspector to the applicant. Once the forms are inspected and signed off on by the Village Inspector, the application becomes the permit.

A final inspection will be performed by the Village Inspector after the pour to inspect the finished product. Once the final inspection is approved, the permit will be closed and filed at the Village Administrative Office. Failure to file for a permit or schedule the appropriate inspections may result in any concrete work performed being removed and reconstructed at the owner and/or contractor’s expense.

2026-27 HEAP Applications

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a federally funded program administered by the Ohio Development Ser- vices Agency's Office of Community Assistance (OCA). It is designed to help eligible low-income Ohioans meet the high costs of home heating. If you are eligible for assistance, the amount of your one-time HEAP benefit will depend on federal funding levels, how many people live with you, total house- hold income, and the primary fuel you use to heat your home. In most cases, the one-time benefit will be a credit applied to your energy bill by your utility company (or fuel vendor). Stop by the Utility Office to pick up a copy of the application. For additional questions about the HEAP program call 1-800-282-0880 during regular business hours (7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) Monday through Friday.

July 2026 Mosquito Fogging Scheduled

Wednesday, July 18th & 29th beginning at 10pm

The Village of Versailles is scheduled to be fogged for mosquitoes on Wednesday, July 18th and Wednesday, June 29th beginning at 10pm. The fogging should be completed by 12am. Residents with respiratory problems are encouraged to stay indoors and take other necessary precautions until the fog dissipates. In case of inclement weather (rain, fog, wind) on the evenings of June 8th or June 29th, the fogging will be rescheduled to begin at 10pm the following night.

Friday Brush and Limb Pickup Reminder

While the Village does provide brush and limb pick up, the courtesy service is not intended for picking up large piles of brush and limbs (any pile larger than a normal pick up load 4’x4'x6'). Citizens have the ability, and are encouraged, to take large piles of trimmings to the Village yard waste pile near the Village Wastewater Plant at 300 Grand Ave for discard. The Village will try to accommodate residents, but by ordinance has the discretion to request ALL brush and limbs be transported by the citizens of the Village. Please contact the Village Office to have your brush scheduled for pick up. Thank you for your cooperation.

Yard Waste:

If you forget to set your yard waste out, please feel free to take the yard waste to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (300 Grand Avenue Compost pile at the top of the hill) for disposal at any time. DO NOT PLACE YARD WASTE IN PLASTIC BAGS FOR COLLECTION OR DISPOSAL. Yard waste must be placed in containers that can be easily dumped by Village personnel.

New Refuse Rates

New rates take effect June 10, 2026

This past winter the Village of Versailles performed an in-depth review of the Village’s Refuse Utility operations, expenses, income, and future needs of this essential utility service. In addition, a full audit was performed of all tote (refuse and recycling) and dumpster (refuse, recycling, and cardboard) customer locations. The Village takes pride in providing refuse services to our residents and businesses at an affordable price, with top notch customer service, and with specialized services that are not always available from private, for-profit refuse collection companies. The Village Refuse Utility has long served the refuse, recycling, and cardboard collection needs for the community and operates it as an enterprise fund. An enterprise fund means that the utility service shall be self-sustaining with income from provided services covering expenses for normal operation expenses (i.e. personnel costs, fuel, totes, etc.) as well as capital purchase needs (i.e. dumpsters, trucks, facility improvements, etc.).

During this in-depth review, it was found that several changes to service fees for provided collection services would be needed in order to support the Refuse Utility Fund going forward to ensure its sustainability to operate and to continue to provide these essential services. It should be noted that the last rate increases for refuse services were initiated on December 10, 2019. With the passage of Village Ordinance No. 26-09 and 26-10 on April 8, 2026 fees will be increased on residential curbside refuse service, commercial refuse collection service, and commercial dumpster refuse service. In addition, fees will now also be charged for residential curbside recycling service, commercial recycling service (dumpsters and totes), and commercial cardboard collection services. As many of you have experienced over the past several years, input costs for fuel, personnel, disposal fees, and materials have all gone up dramatically. The Village’s operations have also experienced these cost increases and it has now come to a point where rates must be changed to reflect those increases.

For residential curbside refuse customers, the new monthly rates for tote collection service shall be as follows: 35 gallon= $19.00/mo; 65 gallon= $20.00/mo; 95 gallon= $21.00/mo. This equates to a $2.50 increase from prior rates over all residential refuse tote sizes. Monthly residential curbside recycling collection service rates will be $2/mo for a 35-gallon tote, and $4/mo for a 65-gallon tote. Commercial refuse dumpster customers will also see increased rates going forward with these changes. The Village has a long and successful history with the recycling efforts of the community with a residential curbside recycling participation rate of 89.5%. The Village has provided recycling service without a separate charge and without mandatory participation for many, many years.

The cost of the recycling operation (labor, fuel, disposal, and capital expenses) has always been paid for out of the Refuse Utility Fund with a portion of customer refuse rates paying for recycling service costs. In an effort to be as transparent as possible to Refuse Utility customers, the Village has now instituted charges for recycling services that will show up on the customer’s monthly utility bill. Please note that the Village is, and always has been, charged by Rumpke for every ton of recycled material that is collected and disposed of. Refuse Utility customers can help keep costs down for the overall operation of the service, which helps keep overall rates lower, by recycling as much as possible versus putting recyclable items in the trash. The cost for a ton of recycling to be disposed of with Rumpke for 2026 is $36.75/ton, whereas refuse material is $67.30/ton. The Village has required by ordinance mandatory refuse service to all properties in the Village corporation limits for many years. With the adoption of updated Refuse Utility Service Policies with Village Ordinance No. 26-10, residential curbside recycling will now also become a mandatory service for all curbside service customers. There is approximately only 10% of residential curbside refuse customers in the Village who do not have a recycling tote. Totes will be provided to those who do not currently have a tote with a default minimum tote size of 35-gallons unless they contact the Utility Office at (937) 526-3294 or via email utilities@versaillesoh.com and request a 65-gallon tote. Commercial customers with recycling dumpsters and/or recycle tote will also now be charged for collection whereas in the past, this too was a free service.

Another new charge that has been implemented is for commercial cardboard collection. Several area businesses have cardboard collection dumpsters that are serviced by the Village’s Refuse Utility. When this service began many years ago, the sale price of the cardboard waste material by the Village covered the expense of the truck, dumpster, personnel, fuel, etc. This service was viewed as a win for all parties as it kept the cardboard material out of the refuse stream, provided a useful material for reuse, and helped keep overall disposal fees down for all refuse customers. However, over the past five plus years the market price of cardboard has been as low as $0/ton and is currently at $5/ton. The low cardboard material prices have been like this for many years leading up to this point. The market is flooded with recycled cardboard material, thus the market price for the sale of this material will likely continue to remain at extremely low prices going forward. The Village’s self-service cardboard compactor located at 355 Grand Ave. will remain in service for refuse customers of the Village only. Please note that cameras are present at the cardboard compactor facility and those disposing of improper material at this location, or from those who are not Village refuse customers, may be subject to prosecution for illegal dumping.

The new refuse rates will take effect with the monthly utility bills due June 10, 2026. Village Administration, Mayor, and Village Council do not take such rate increases lightly, and had much discussion about changing refuse service rates. Refuse service rates and policies from other municipalities who provide in-house services as well as private refuse company services were reviewed and considered during the overall rate review process. The new refuse rates will help ensure the Village’s continued Refuse Utility operation continues with dedicated, top-notch customer service for all those who are served. 75th Annual Versailles Poultry Days

Last year Versailles claimed the title as the worlds largest Chicken BBQ with 40,179 served. This year we celebrate with 75th anniversary of the festival with a theme of “Cheers to 75 Years! Where everybody knows your name,” Versailles is a place where you’re never a stranger. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or a first-time visitor, you’ll find warmth, laughter, and a sense of belonging. To mark the 75th year of the festival and the 250th anniversary of the United States gaining its independence, the festival will offer fireworks, Friday June 12th. The Social Tent will be packed with entertainment all weekend including Saw Crush, 1988, Act 3, First to Eleven and many more. The festival also offers performances by area high school and college students. Don’t miss the biggest party in the county.

Two Semi Loads of Chicken have been ordered!! The drive thru and walk thru chicken lines (459 S. Center St) are for individual dinners only. These lines open at 3:30 Friday, 11:30 Saturday, and 11:00 Sunday. Pick up for pre-purchased bulk coolers will be the High School (280 Marker Rd) and is best entered from the West on 121/Marker Road. VAPPA will offer the “Pit Potato” in addition to its hand squeezed lemonade. FREE Kiddie Tractor Pull, FREE Family Fun Zone, FREE FFA Activities, FREE Chicken Eating Contest and FREE Entertainment all weekend.

Holly Keiser has been selected as Honorary Grand Parade Marshals which will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 13th. The Chicken Classic Cruise In will begin at 9am on Sunday, June 14th with registration at the corner of South Center and West Ward Streets. NO AGE LIMIT ON VEHICLES. Cars, Jeeps, Trucks and Motorcycles are welcome. Ultimate Disc will celebrate its 44th year in Versailles at Heritage Park. The weekend’s tournament will include 30 teams from throughout the United States. The Zac Richard Scholarship Fund Vendor Area is FULL. Other activities include “Sons of the Legion” Cornhole Tournament, Lions Club Chuckaluck, Flower Show, K of C Bingo, Cake & Egg Show, and of course the Miss Chick and Little Miss Poultry Days pageants.
